Layer of superfine volcanic ash near Mt. Shasta.

Complex layering preserved in a cinder cone that had been partially mined near Mt. Shasta, exposing a perfect cross-section of the cinder cone before operations were shut down.

The neck of the cinder cone (or center, for the non-geologists), exposed for all to see.
