Summer Programs:


Summer Research Opportunities with NASA - Planetary Geology and Geophysics Undergraduate Research Program (PGGURP) is sponsoring a summer research program to provide incentive for the development of future planetary geosciences, to broaden the base of participation of students in planetary geosciences, to introduce students in traditional geosciences disciplines to planetary studies, and to educate students about the interrelationship between science objectives, data sets, and instrument requirements. LPI Summer Intern Program in Planetary Science-Near Johnson Space Center, Houston TX - Runs from June 6 to August 12. Interns receive a $500 per week to cover living expenses and assistance with travel expenses to a maximum of $1000. Shared low-cost housing in apartments near the LPI can be arranged. Alaskan Geosciences Expeditionary Experience! Emphasizes fieldwork in Earth Systems Science with the University of Idaho. Participants take part in an intensive Summer Arctic Expeditionary Program on the Juneau icefield, the fifth largest icefield in the Western

Southern Oregon University Field Course focusing on Geology and
Hydrogeology! A thirty-three day summer field course located between the Klamath Mountains and the Southern Cascade Range (a beautiful region!!). A deposit of $150 must accompany your application (payable to Southern Oregon University). APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 4, 2005 Applications will be accepted until the course is fully enrolled, but preference will be given to applicants who file before March 4. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by March 11, 2005.

Are you a Paleontology student? The Midwest Symposium of Student
Paleontologic Research is calling for abstracts for their second annual conference April 8-9 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Geology Museum. Abstract submission DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 7, 2005. Visit http://www.msspr.net for application info.

Tropical Field Courses 2005: The Institute for Tropical Ecology and Conservation. There are several sections. ITEC tropical field courses include lectures, field exercises and individual research. Enrollment is limited to 15 students per section. Cost: $1800 - includes all instruction, room and board, local transportation and travel during mid-term cloud forest field trip. Miami University (in Ohio) Field Geology: June 4 - July 8, 2005 Camp in the Northern Rockies while you study the spectacular geology of the Snake River Plain and Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier-Waterton, Banff, and Jasper national park regions. Summer student fellowships at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution: Students who have completed their junior or senior years of undergraduate study in a science, mathematics or engineering field may apply. Fellowship stipend of $3960 - $4752 for the 10-12 week program. Travel allowances will be provided. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 15, 2005. Notification of decisions will be by April 5, 2005.
