Hello Geology Department!!!

Here is the new NEWsletter. Not too many things this week.

Field Schools:

Beloit-Macalester Geologic Field Methods. This is an amazing experience (also, not to mention a requirement for the geology major here at Beloit. May not be offered summer '03). Have you been to the Black Hills? Badlands? Devils Tower? Bighorn Mountains? Seminoe Dam? Sign up now. I promise you won't regret it... (Remember that a $200 deposit is due by 5 April!! Make checks out to"Beloit College Geology")

Sedimentary Basins and Tectonics of the Colorado Plateau: Field Seminar. This is field trip, with the dates of September 1-7, which conflicts with Beloit's schedule. Costs $100 and must transport self to Kansas City.

Environmental Field Studies Semester and Summer Study Abroad. www.fieldstudies.org

Environmental Geology Field Camp with Illinois State University. May 20-June 15. The focus is on environmental issues in Illinois, mostly hydrologically related. www.geo.ilstu.edu/geology/fieldtrips/enviro_field_camp.shtml

Internships:

The Mineral Physics Institute. Summer Internship with stipend of $3,500. 10-week research opportunity with other students. www.chipr.sunysb.edu/educaton/2001ssprojects.html

Conservation Land Intership Program. You would be working as conservation partners in the planning and application of conservations practices which benefit upland wildlife habitat species. This is in Wisconsin, check it out.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Water Research, with the Colorado State University. $2,400. 8 week program with field excursins. http://waterREU.colostate.edu

Carnegie Institution of Washington. The chance to do undergraduate research (mineralogy, petrology, physics and >seismology. 10-week program, $3,000. www.gl.ciw.edu/interns

Late addition!! The North Dakota Geological Survey is looking for an undergrad to do field research (geologic mapping in the Little Missouri Badlands, 6-10 weeks during May-August 2002, but they say times are flexible to accommodate field schools!!!!). The Survey expects that the research will develop into a senior thesis, and they will pay you ($400/week + some expenses). The Survey has specifically targeted Keck schools with this ad.
