Internship Opportunities:
2003 AAPG/SEG Spring Student Expo: Looking for a job after graduation? Looking for a good summer internship? Go to the Expo in Oklahoma! Deadline: February 15th, 2003. Think you can make the deadline? For more information...Check out the Geology Board!
U of M Summer Internship Program: "Fluids in the Earth from Surface to Core" Heh. Well, research here can involve things like field, analytical, experimental, or theoretical study of geological fluids. In the past they have done research in places like British Columbia, Sweden, Montana, Washington, and Minnesota. Deadline: March 7th, 2003. River Basins Research Initiative: There are research opportunities for undergrads of biology, chemistry, geology, and environmental science majors focused on watershed research. Deadline: March 10th 2003. For information check out http://alpha.furman.edu/academics/dept/ees/newhome/index.html
Land Conservancy and Resource Management: This one is a summer research opportunity at Gettysburg College, and you would be working in the Mid-Atlantic States. A quick example of what people have done is a study of the role of small and large mammals in forest management. Deadline: March 15th, 2003. Interested? Contact Dr. Veronique A. SCA Conservation Intern: GIS/Geography positions, Outdoor Education opportunities; live and serve in national parks, forests, and historic sites. Apply online at: www.theSCA.org/experience or pick up an application from the board in the Geology Dept.
Summer Programs, including Field Camps:
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution: Here is an exciting opportunity for juniors and seniors with at least a tentative interest in oceanography or marine policy. Fellowships are given to pursue an independent research project of choice. Deadline: February 15th, 2003. Check out www.whoi.edu/education for more information. :)
Summer Field Camp in the Rockies: What, are we in college or girl scouts? He he, just kidding. Well, this is what it sounds like, camp in the Rockies with opportunities for research. Space is limited, reserve your seat by the Deadline: March 1st, 2003. For information see www.albion.edu/geology/fieldcmp.htm. [Note: This field camp may substitute for Geology 215 at Beloit]
University of Nevada: Here's another opportunity to take a vacation and earn some credit. [Editor's note: Kristine is not familiar with our summer field experience!!] The University of Nevada in Reno is offering a summer field course in Ruth Camp Nevada, so if you're one of those rustic-loving, cowboy types, here's the perfect opportunity for you! Environmental Geology Field Camp: This one teaches you how to be fields. No just kidding. But, it does teach you how to study fields. Topics included are field methods in hydrogeology, water quality, environmental geophysics, and you get to go on cool field trips. Deadline: April 1st, 2003. University of Southern Mississippi: Wow! Study in Scotland! Now that would be interesting. It is designed for undergrads, and petrology, structural geology, and stratigraphy are required for this opportunity. So! Deadline: April 25, 2003. Miami University: Well, this one also is a summer field camp studying in the Northern Rockies. Check out places like Yellowstone, the Snake River Plain, Grand Teton, and Glacier-Waterton. There is opportunity here as well for credit. I would give you the deadline, but do you think they say? NO! They just calmly state they are currently taking applications. Good luck with this one. They might forget to tell you what date they're leaving. Maybe they remembered it on www.muohio.edu/fieldgeology/. Good luck with it.
University of Memphis: Well, another field camp! This one is studying in the Black Hills and Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. This one is for credit, and unfortunately costs university fees and tuition. For more info look at http://cas.memphis.edu/geology.
Earth Systems Science: A "unique" Geoadventure in Alaska. For this summer program, you go to Alaska, and study some geology for field experience. Very cool. For the deadline go to www.mines.uidaho.edu/glacier This program is available this summer and next.
Wright State University: Want to take a vacation this summer and earn a credit for it? Check out this universities program for geologists. Information on the class is available at www.wright.edu/geology.

Teaching Stuff:
Smith College: Would you like to be a Laboratory Instructor? How about making a salary of 28,000 dollars plus benefits for at least two years plus a renewable contract. Sound appealing? You would be teaching Oceanography and Earth Processes and Earth History. All you need is a Master's degree. Check with Carl if this appeals to you.
Seventh International History, Philosophy, and Science Teaching Conference: Yep. Not sure exactly what this one is, but check out www.ihpst.uwinnipeg.ca Deadlines: Proposal: April 1st, 2003, Final Abstract: June 15th, 2003, Registration: June 15th, 2003, Hotel: July 1st, 2003.
